This late 19th-century footman's livery from the Royal Hanoverian household is a rare and historically significant example of royal servant attire from the House of Hanover, one of Europe's most distinguished dynasties. The ensemble includes a magnificent scarlet wool frock coat, adorned with gilt brass buttons engraved with kingly crowns, symbolizing its direct connection to the Hanoverian monarchy.

Accompanying the coat is a black waistcoat edged in gold braid, reflecting the formal elegance typical of royal domestic uniforms, and a pair of red plush breeches, completing the traditional court livery worn by footmen in service to the Royal House of Hanover. These garments were designed not only for function but also to project monarchical prestige and ceremonial grandeur.

The livery was acquired from the Sotheby’s Hanover auction in October 2005, confirming its authentic provenance and reinforcing its value as a collectible royal artifact. All royal household buttons are intact, and the waistcoat, coat, and breeches remain in good to very good condition, with only minor signs of wear consistent with age and use.

This Hanoverian royal livery is a remarkable piece of 19th-century aristocratic fashion, ideal for collectors of royal memorabilia, European court uniforms, and Hanoverian heritage. Its craftsmanship, symbolism, and documented origin make it a standout item in any historical costume collection or museum of royal history.
